With approximately 2,500 recorded species of butterfly and new species being recorded and described in the last few years, Ecuador is one of the countries with the highest diversity of butterflies in the world.
In addition, this bio-geographical region has the second highest number of endemic butterfly species and subspecies in Ecuador, which is equivalent to 25% of all endemic features in the tropical humid forest.
Our experience in the field of working with butterflies has allowed us to minimise the time needed to search for and identify the appropriate plants needed to feed the butterfly larvae for their growth. To compliment this experience Kaony Lodge
has developed and built a lepidoptery, an area for butterfly breeding and flight where you can fully experience the marvellous process of transformation of these amazing creatures.
This exclusive space can be used as an area for the exposition and study of butterflies for visitors, whether for detailed research or simply to appreciate the more than a dozen native species from the rich area of Mindo, Puerto Quito, Ecuador’s cloud forest.
